Wildlife In Need & Wildlife In Deed, Inc. (WINAWIDI) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that rescues injured and orphaned wildlife. These animals are housed, fed, and medically treated until they are ready to be returned to their natural habitat.
Wildlife in Need & Wildlife In Deed, Inc. is not governmentally funded or corporate sponsored and relies solely on donations of cash and materials from local businesses and the community for its operations and educational functions.
Calls are received daily for rescue/removal of non-domestic animals from sheriff offices, veterinary offices, businesses and the general public in Clark, Floyd, Jefferson, Harrison, Washington and Scott counties in Southern Indiana. The orphaned, injured or animals in danger to either the public, or are themselves in danger, are rescued and either housed for rehabilitation and returned to the wild. Those animals which are unable to return to the wild due to habitat constraints, injuries, or being that they are exotic to the Southern Indiana region, become ambassadors for educational purposes.
WINAWIDI exhibits wildlife in their care at schools, fairs, church groups, social gatherings, and for various organizational groups to educate the community on the conservation of wildlife. There are exotic and endangered species at Wildlife In Need. Many are products of the exotic pet markets where animals are removed from their homes in the wild to be sold as pets. It doesn't take long to discover that wild animals do not act like cats or dogs. They bite, claw, smell, are costly to feed due to their special diet needs, and many grow quite large making it difficult to keep them in a house or apartment. So, what happens to these animals? Sadly, many are destroyed unless a suitable home is found. WINAWIDI provides a home for these animals to ensure their survival.
